Vitamins

Vitamins are organic compounds (other than carbohydrates, fats and proteins) that body needs for metabolic purposes.
They yield no calories . Many vitamins are portions of coenzymes. Niacin is a part of the coenzyme NAD+ and Riboflavin is a part of FAD. These two enzymes are essential for cellular respiration. Coenzymes are needed in only small amounts because each one can be used repeatedly. Although vitamins are needed only in small amounts, no single food can supply all the vitamins. It is necessary to eat a variety of  foods to obtain all these vitamins. Fruits and vegetables supply a good amount of vitamin C and A. Excess of vitamin C can cause kidney stone and can be converted to oxalic acid, a molecule that is toxic to the body . Vitamin A in excess can cause peeling of the skin, bone and joint pains, and liver damage. Excess of vitamin D can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and kidney damage. Insufficient vitamin in diet can lead to deficiency diseases
